Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience working with Google Cloud products, particularly in the context of analytics platforms or large-scale infrastructure.
  • Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, including SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, and incident response.

SALARY: £47,790 – £53,100

LOCATION(S):Manchester

HOURS:Full-time – 35 hours per week

WORKING PATTERN:Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Manchester office.

About this opportunity

As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) within the Data & Platform Enablement Lab, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and supporting a best-in-class analytics platform on Google Cloud within Lloyds Banking. Our mission is to drive cost efficiency, transparency, and accelerated time-to-value through automation, integration, and evergreening of the latest cloud-native tools and features.

You’ll be part of a team that provides foundational capabilities for data access, storage, processing, and deployment—empowering users through self-service, automated engagement, and Golden Paths that simplify platform adoption. Your focus will be on ensuring the reliability, scalability, and observability of our cloud infrastructure, while continuously improving service levels and operational excellence.

What you’ll do

  • Manages the development and/or operation of significant aspects of the data management system with guidance from senior colleagues.

  • Grows own capabilities by pursuing and investing in personal development opportunities and develops the capabilities of direct reports by working within existing development framework; provides specialised training or coaching in area of expertise to others throughout the organisation.

  • Highlights shortcomings and suggests improvements in current IT Security processes, systems and procedures within assigned unit and/or discipline.

  • Delivers prescribed outcomes for area of responsibility by working within established knowledge management systems.

  • Delivers outcomes by managing others and working within established systems.

  • Defines, delivers, and adapts specialized products/services to meet customer needs by selecting the best possible approaches available within established systems.

What you’ll need

  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Certification, such as Google Cloud Associate Engineer.

  • 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience working with Google Cloud products, particularly in the context of analytics platforms or large-scale infrastructure.

  • Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, including SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, and incident response.

  • Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Deployment Manager) and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Proficiency in monitoring, logging, and observability tools (e.g., Stackdriver, Prometheus, Grafana).

  • Knowledge of Linux systems, networking, and cloud security best practices.

It would be great if you also had

  • Experience working in DevOps environments, with a focus on automation, scalability, and resilience.

  • Familiarity with container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, GKE) and serverless architectures.

  • Exposure to data analytics platforms or big data tools (e.g., BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub).

  • Programming or scripting skills in Python, Go, or Bash.

  • Experience with incident management, postmortems, and continuous improvement practices.
