Title and Summary

Site Reliability Engineer

The BizOps team is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer who can help us solve problems, build our CI/CD pipeline, and lead Mastercard in DevOps automation and best practices.

  • Are you a born problem solver who loves to figure out how something works?
  • Are you a CI/CD enthusiast who loves automation?
  • Do you prefer to automate manual work whenever possible?

Business Operations is leading the DevOps transformation at Mastercard through tooling and advocating for change & standards across development, quality, release, and product organizations. We seek team members with a passion for change and pushing automation boundaries. Experience collaborating across development, operations, and product teams to prioritize needs and build relationships is essential.

Mission

The role of Business Operations is to ensure production readiness for the platform by partnering with developers to design, build, implement, and support technology services.

A Business Operations Engineer will ensure operational criteria such as system availability, capacity, performance, monitoring, self-healing, and deployment automation are embedded throughout the delivery process.

We support daily operations with a focus on triage and root cause analysis, understanding the business impact of our products. Our goal is to be proactive in development, proactively manage production and changes, and enhance customer experience and application value. Risk management, compliance, and standardization are also key focuses.

Ultimately, our role is to align product and customer priorities with operational needs, continuously reviewing our operational state and providing feedback to development teams for improvement.

Responsibilities

  1. Engage in and improve the entire service lifecycle—from inception and design, through deployment, operation, and refinement.
  2. Analyze ITSM activities and provide feedback on operational gaps or resiliency concerns.
  3. Support services pre-launch through system design consulting, capacity planning, and launch reviews.
  4. Maintain live services by monitoring availability, latency, and system health.
  5. Scale systems sustainably via automation and push for reliability and velocity improvements.
  6. Support CI/CD pipelines for software promotion, validation, and operational gating, leading DevOps automation efforts.
  7. Practice sustainable incident response and conduct blameless postmortems.
  8. Approach problem-solving holistically during production events to optimize recovery time.
  9. Collaborate with a global team across multiple geographies and time zones.
  10. Share knowledge and mentor junior team members.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Computer Science or related field involving coding, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with algorithms, data structures, scripting, pipeline management, and software design.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, ownership, and drive.
  • Ability to debug, optimize code, and automate tasks.
  • Experience dealing with stakeholders and making urgent decisions.
  • Preferred experience in languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, Go, Perl, or Ruby.
  • Interest in large-scale distributed systems troubleshooting and design.
  • Experience with industry-standard CI/CD tools like Git/BitBucket, Jenkins, Maven, Artifactory, and Chef.
  • Experience designing efficient CI/CD workflows from development to production.
