Job summary

NUVIA UK is hiring a Site Operative for Aldermaston with occasional travel to other sites. You will safely undertake plant operations, decommissioning and dismantling of nuclear facilities in line with approved documentation.

You will work on challenging, safety-critical projects across civil nuclear and defence sectors, contributing to national infrastructure while receiving development and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Classified radiation worker
• Basic radiological awareness training
• Experience with radiological conditions & contamination assessments
• Knowledge of PPE, RPE and radiological monitoring systems
• Experience with lifting/slinging operations
• Experience with erection, operation and dismantling of temporary structures
• Good understanding of tooling and equipment and their safe application
• Ability to read procedures to minimise risks to persons, property and environment
• Ability to communicate and work effectively within a team
• Excellent health, safety and environment awareness for industrial working
• Flexible attitude to undertake a wide range of duties including decommissioning tooling
• Up to 1 year’s experience in industrial/project environment
• Physical fitness and manual dexterity
• General engineering background
• Full UK driving license

Purpose of the job

To safely undertake plant operations, decommissioning and dismantling of nuclear facilities, plant and equipment in accordance with approved documentation, within the boundaries and restrictions of Nuclear/Construction Sites and in direct support of specific projects.

Key Accountabilities

• Decontamination: To decontaminate plant, equipment and facilities
• Dismantling: To dismantle and size reduce plant and equipment
• Care & Maintenance: To undertake plant checks, routine maintenance of facilities and housekeeping
• Environment: To control, minimise and process radioactive waste to client requirements
• Preparation of work areas, materials and equipment
• Plant Operations: To operate process plant and materials handling equipment in support of site activities

Profile

Duties and Requirements

• Classified radiation worker
• Basic radiological awareness training
• Practical knowledge and experience of radiological conditions and contamination assessments
• Practical knowledge and experience of PPE, RPE and radiological monitoring systems
• Practical knowledge and experience of lifting/slinging operations
• Practical knowledge and experience of erection, operation and dismantling of temporary structures
• Good understanding of tooling and equipment and their safe application in the workplace
• Reasonable level of intelligence and education, CSE/GCSE or equivalent, with some knowledge of technical terms and commercial arithmetic with basic keyboard skills
• Ability to work to written procedures in order to minimise risks to persons, property and environment
• Ability to communicate and work effectively within a team
• Excellent health, safety and environment awareness for industrial working
• A flexible attitude to work, capability and willingness of being trained to undertake a wide range of duties including the use of standard and specialist decommissioning tooling
• Up to 1 years’ previous experience working in an industrial and/or project environment
• Physical fitness and manual dexterity
• A general engineering, craft or building background and / or knowledge gained through experience and on the job training
• NVQ Level 2 (minimum or working towards)
• Relevant CSCS card discipline for construction sites
• Relevant CPCS or NPORS cards for the operation of plant and equipment
• IPAF and PASMA training
• Relevant security clearance for Nuclear Licensed sites
• Full UK driving license
