Pay: £12.42 per hour

Hours: 4 on 4 off shifts, days & nights, 12 hours, 6am til 6pm / 6pm til 6am

A quick look at the role.

As a Site Operative, you will work as part of the plant Operations team to drive effective, timely, and cost-effective waste operations on the recycle processing site.

The Biffa division you’ll be supporting.

Biffa Green Energy is part of our Resources & Energy division that aims to produce solid recovered fuel pellets from non-recyclable household waste. Pellets are used as a coal substitution in heavy industry, offering carbon emission savings. This is a great opportunity to work in a growing sustainable industry.

Your core responsibilities.

  • Work closely with team members, Site Managers, and Supervisors to ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Quality, and Environment policies, procedures, management systems, and regulations.
  • Monitor the drying floor for smoke and trigger alarms if observed.
  • Assist in hazard spotting activities.
  • Assist with the loading/unloading process of bins and skips and work within the waste process as required.
  • Operate equipment to assist recycling processes as required.
  • Collaborate with Fitters/Electricians and the Site Manager on plant maintenance to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Help clean and maintain plant and machinery onsite.
  • Carry out general housekeeping.

Our essential requirements.

  • Flexible approach to working hours.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Punctuality.
  • A good level of English is required as the working environment can be demanding. Previous experience on fast-moving production lines is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.

And here’s why you’ll love it at Biffa.

  • Competitive salary.
  • Ongoing career development, training, and coaching — because if you don’t grow, we don’t grow.
  • Generous pension scheme.
  • Medical and dental schemes.
  • Retail and leisure discounts.
  • Holiday and travel discounts.
  • Bike to work scheme.
  • Plus, much more...

Changing the way people think about waste.

At Biffa, we love working with waste. Whether we’re turning it into sustainable power, finding new ways to recycle it, or simply keeping it off the streets, we believe every day is an opportunity to improve the lives of millions. It’s a view shared by our 11,500+ people across the country, who trust us to provide rewarding, challenging, but never dull careers.
