Job summary

Barrett Steel in Dartford is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead daily yard, warehousing and site operations. You will drive productivity, safety, quality and on-time delivery while aligning activities with commercial goals and the site Leadership Team.

This hands-on role requires strong people leadership, a safety-first mindset, and NEBOSH/IOSH qualifications; flexibility to cover shifts and a track record of lean improvements in manufacturing or processing environments.

Qualifications

• Experience managing safety, quality, and group policies.
• NEBOSH or IOSH managing safety qualification.
• Experience in a similar management role within manufacturing or processing environment with demonstrable people-management (up to disciplinary processes).
• Has relevant management training and experience.
• Possess good written and verbal communication skills and IT literacy.
• Due to role nature, core hours are days but flexibility to cover shifts as needed.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily yard, warehousing and operational activities across the site.
• Oversee 3rd party workers or suppliers ensuring safety and compliance.
• Drive continuous improvement and lean practices across site operations.
• Lead site Leadership Team and align operations with commercial goals.
• Ensure health and safety, quality and customer delivery performance.
• Develop and implement processes for stock control and goods in procedures.
• Maintain site security and protect assets.
• Step in for Operations Director during leave and oversee other departments.
• Coordinate with transport and inbound/outbound logistics.
