About the role

We are committed to building a more resilient UK energy network and are seeking an experienced OHL Site Manager to join our Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to support National Grid projects across the UK, contributing to a sustainable energy future.

The Role

As an OHL (Overhead Lines) Site Manager, you will lead the on-site delivery of power infrastructure projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient execution of construction works. You will collaborate with project leadership throughout all project stages—from planning to handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage on-site construction activities for OHL projects.
  • Support Project Managers/Directors in delivering projects within scope, time, cost, and quality parameters.
  • Manage site resources effectively and ensure compliance.
  • Promote a culture of safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate site records and progress documentation.
  • Inspire and lead on-site teams, ensuring safety and performance.
  • Ensure regulatory and contractual compliance.
  • Drive innovation and leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Balance project objectives related to time, cost, scope, risk, and quality.

What you'll be doing
  • Participate in project reviews and maintain project documentation.
  • Prepare reports and liaise with stakeholders.
  • Implement technical information and drawings into delivery.
  • Ensure safety and environmental standards are upheld.
  • Support accident investigations and safety initiatives.
  • Manage workforce competencies and safety documentation.
  • Coordinate with project activities and internal functions.
  • Manage subcontractors and procurement plans.
  • Control project expenditure and resources.
  • Identify and report risks and hazards.
  • Lead and motivate the project team, ensuring delivery to schedule.
  • Escalate issues and support decision-making.

Who we're looking for
Essential qualities/experience:
  • Experience in safe systems of work and risk management.
  • Understanding of standard contract forms.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work under pressure with a flexible approach.
  • Problem-solving skills and solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Effective interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Desirable qualities/experience:
  • Experience with various project types.
  • Proficiency in O365.
  • Valid driving license.
  • Holds CSCS and SSSTS or equivalent certifications.
