Description
We are looking for an experienced and driven Site Manager to take full operational ownership of our biomass fuel production assets in Tilbury. This key leadership role will oversee all aspects of operations, including health and safety compliance, environmental regulations, fuel production, feedstock acceptance, inventory management, and performance of the Tilbury fuel production facility.
The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership, with the ability to manage and inspire operational teams while maintaining a strong safety-first culture. They will also act as the primary operational point of contact for the fuel offtake client, ensuring effective stakeholder communication and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Oversight
- Champion health and safety across Tilbury 1 and Tilbury 2 sites.
- Manage daily operations including waste wood intake, inventory control, fuel production, and plant maintenance, ensuring safe, efficient performance.
- Guarantee consistent output of high-quality biomass fuel across all Tilbury assets.
- Monitor compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards.
- Leverage data analytics and KPIs to enhance safety, productivity, quality, and profitability.
- Collaborate with Contracts Management to coordinate fuel deliveries and resolve logistical issues with customers.
- Develop and execute strategies that optimise production flow and minimise waste.
Biomass Fuel Production
- Ensure seamless communication with customers and internal teams regarding fuel volumes.
- Lead fuel quality assurance initiatives, implementing rigorous controls across all Tilbury operations.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for waste reduction, recycling, and reuse.
- Oversee implementation of effective waste management practices and systems.
Stakeholder & Customer Relations
- Build trusted relationships with key partners.
- Balance commercial awareness with contract enforcement, adapting approach as needed.
- Communicate with suppliers, vendors, and clients to support efficient operations.
- Proactively identify and manage operational and contractual risks, escalating performance issues when necessary.
Team Leadership
- Inspire and guide the operations team, promoting a culture of growth and continuous improvement.
- Set clear performance targets and carry out regular evaluations.
- Monitor daily metrics and respond swiftly to performance issues, escalating when appropriate.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment on business objectives.
Maintenance Planning
- Plan and coordinate routine equipment and facility maintenance to maximise operational uptime.
- Work closely with maintenance teams to address issues swiftly and minimise downtime and cost.
- Utilise MMS to maintain safety compliance and ensure optimal plant upkeep.
Resource Management
- Maintain fiscal accountability across operational budgets.
- Optimise usage of labour, materials, and equipment.
- Drive cost-saving initiatives while upholding safety and quality standards.
Continuous Improvement
- Implement strategies to improve safety, processes, fuel efficiency, and quality.
- Apply lean principles and best practices to enhance overall operations.
- Track and report key performance indicators to support data-driven decision-making.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Qualifications:
- WAMITAB/COTC.
- IOSH or above.
- Minimum Level 5 in leadership apprenticeship or equivalent.
- Operations Management.
- Engineering Background (preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in operations management, with at least 2 years in biomass fuel production or a related industry.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale production facilities and teams.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Ability to engage with customers and external stakeholders on operational performance matters.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in operational management software and tools.
- Knowledge of wood waste management practices and regulations.
- Strong analytical and financial management skills.

- Ability to effectively communicate with key stakeholders and plan maintenance schedules.
