Site Manager - 400kV Substation

Walpole, Norfolk | Contract | Outside IR35

MRR Infrastructure are currently recruiting for an experienced Site Manager to support the delivery of a major 400kV transmission project in Walpole, Norfolk.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transmission and substation professional to join an established project that is already in delivery. The successful candidate will be joining a major engineering and construction organisation with a strong track record across the transmission and distribution sector.

Our client is an international engineering and construction business with significant experience delivering complex energy infrastructure projects. Their UK transmission business works across major National Grid and other transmission network projects, delivering substation, transmission and associated infrastructure schemes across the country.

The Role

The Site Manager will take responsibility for the day-to-day management and coordination of site activities on a live 400kV substation project.

This is not a role for someone looking to develop into a Site Manager. The project is already in progress and the successful candidate will need to be able to step into an established project environment and operate effectively from the outset.

You will work closely with the Project Manager, engineering teams, subcontractors and client representatives to ensure construction activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with the programme, design and project requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing day-to-day site activities across a 400kV substation project.
• Coordinating electrical, civil and specialist subcontractors.
• Managing site resources and ensuring work is delivered safely and to programme.
• Ensuring RAMS, permits, site documentation and National Grid requirements are correctly implemented.
• Monitoring construction progress and identifying potential programme or delivery issues.
• Managing site interfaces between different contractors and disciplines.
• Supporting inspections, testing, commissioning and energisation activities.
• Maintaining strong HSEQ and CDM standards across the project.
• Working closely with the Project Manager to resolve technical, programme and resource issues.
• Maintaining effective communication with the client, subcontractors and wider project team.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Site Manager with a strong background in high-voltage transmission and substation construction.

You must have:

• Current or previous SR163 authorisation. This is an essential requirement.
• Significant experience working within National Grid transmission environments.
• Proven Site Management experience on HV/EHV transmission or substation projects.
• Strong 400kV substation experience.
• Experience managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary site teams.
• Strong knowledge of National Grid site procedures and requirements.
• Good understanding of HSEQ and CDM requirements.
• The ability to take ownership of an established project and quickly understand the site, programme, risks and priorities.

Experience of 400kV substation extensions, AIS/GIS projects, commissioning and energisation, temporary works and NEC projects would be advantageous.

The Opportunity

This is a long-term opportunity to work on a significant 400kV transmission project with an established engineering and construction organisation.

The role is predominantly site based and would suit someone who enjoys being close to the delivery team and taking ownership of construction activities rather than managing purely from an office environment.

The position is available on a contract basis and is assessed as Outside IR35.
