Job summary

Octavius is recruiting a Site Manager to lead on a major National Highways improvement scheme in Exeter, coordinating site operations and ensuring safe, timely delivery.

You will work with the Project Manager, delivery team and supply chain partners to maintain high standards and effective communication with customers and the traveling public, while upholding Octavius values.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
• SMSTS qualification.
• Temporary Works experience (desirable).
• First Aid qualification (desirable).
• National Highways project experience (desirable).
• Full UK Driving Licence (essential).

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage day-to-day site operations to achieve programme, quality, commercial, and safety objectives.
• Drive a positive safety culture and ensure compliance with all HSE and quality requirements.
• Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, suppliers, and direct labour on site.
• Build strong working relationships with customers, stakeholders and local communities.
• Manage project risks, opportunities, and site performance for successful outcomes.
• Monitor progress, maintain records, and provide clear reporting to the project team.
• Support efficient project close-out, defect management and handover activities.
• Promote Octavius values and develop an engaged, accountable site team.

Job description

We are recruiting for a Site Manager to join us here at Octavius.

We are a leading civil engineering organisation delivering safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions across the UK.

You’ll join our team delivering a significant National Highways improvement scheme in Exeter, helping enhance one of the region's key strategic road networks. The project will involve coordinating multiple work activities, managing subcontract partners, and ensuring safe, efficient delivery for both our customer and the travelling public.

You’ll be working on…. (what your role and responsibility is)

As Site Manager, you will lead and manage all site activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, profitably, and to the highest standards of quality. You will be responsible for coordinating site operations, managing resources, and ensuring work is completed in line with programme requirements, customer expectations, and Octavius values.

Working closely with the Project Manager, delivery team, supply chain partners, and National Highways representatives, you will create a collaborative and high-performing site culture where safety is at the heart of everything we do.

Key Responsibilities Will Include

• Proven experience managing highway construction or civil engineering projects within a live infrastructure environment.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, develop, and manage site teams and supply chain partners.
• Excellent planning, organisation, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Good understanding of NEC contracts and their practical application.
• Experience managing project programmes, risk, quality, and commercial performance.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with customers, stakeholders, and local communities.
• Good knowledge of construction methodologies, specifications, and relevant industry standards.
• Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and project reporting systems.
