Balfour Beatty is looking for an experienced Site Manager to join our team on the ASTI Netherton Project in Aberdeen.

As Site Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management and delivery of construction activities on site, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and to the required quality standards.

You will provide leadership and direction to a multidisciplinary site team and manage the performance and integration of subcontractors and the wider supply chain. Working closely with the Project Manager and wider project team, you will ensure customer requirements and project objectives are achieved while effectively managing safety, quality, programme, cost and risk.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced construction professional who enjoys taking ownership of site delivery and leading teams within a challenging project environment.

What you'll be doing

As Site Manager, you will:

  • Take responsibility for the successful delivery of your allocated section of works, managing day-to-day construction activities and leading by example.
  • Lead, motivate and manage site teams, ensuring individuals understand their responsibilities and are appropriately inducted, trained and supported.
  • Promote a relentless focus on Zero Harm, ensuring the health, safety and welfare of employees, subcontractors, supply chain partners and the general public.
  • Carry out regular Safety and Environmental Tours and support accident and incident investigations where required.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of Health & Safety systems, implement improvements and ensure changes in relevant legislation are communicated to the team.
  • Lead periodic risk reviews and ensure appropriate actions are incorporated into the Project Risk Register.
  • Manage subcontractors and monitor their attendance, productivity, progress, safety and overall performance.
  • Develop and monitor short-term and operational programmes, ensuring activities remain aligned with the overall construction programme.
  • Ensure detailed plans are in place so that labour, materials, plant and supply chain resources are available when required.
  • Maintain accurate site and progress records and provide clear updates to the Project Manager and wider project team.
  • Deliver regular Toolbox Talks and ensure safe systems of work are properly understood and followed.
  • Monitor project performance against agreed KPIs, quality standards and programme targets.
  • Ensure appropriate site audits are undertaken and actions arising from findings are completed.
  • Implement effective systems and processes to control the quality of construction works and support successful handover and self-certification.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to understand budgets, cost control and opportunities for cost recovery.
  • Identify additional works, potential opportunities and any financial, specification or programme risks, ensuring these are communicated to the senior project team.
  • Support regular team meetings to review site performance, programme, safety, quality and productivity.
  • Champion continuous improvement and support the delivery of wider sustainability and business objectives.
Who we're looking for

We're looking for someone with a strong track record of successfully managing operational delivery within a construction or construction-related environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working as a Site Manager or in a comparable site management position.
  • Strong experience managing construction activities, site teams and subcontractors.
  • A good understanding of construction programming, with the ability to produce realistic programmes and monitor progress against key milestones.
  • A strong working knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation and construction safety management systems.
  • The ability to understand and communicate method statements and safe systems of work, as well as support others in their preparation.
  • Experience of accident and incident investigation principles.
  • A sound understanding of construction quality management, including handover and self-certification requirements.
  • Good commercial awareness, including experience of working to budgets, monitoring costs and identifying opportunities for cost recovery.
  • A working knowledge of standard forms of construction contract.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience of managing, motivating and developing teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to influence site teams, subcontractors and stakeholders.
  • A practical, solution-focused approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • The ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • CSCS Card and SMSTS qualification.
  • Willingness to obtain a First Aid qualification, if not already held.
  • The ability to work independently, take ownership of decisions and clearly communicate outcomes.

Above all, you will be a proactive and visible leader who sets high standards on site and is committed to delivering work safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
