Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Site Excavation Project Manager to oversee and manage all aspects of our site excavation projects from inception to completion. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with a strong understanding of excavation techniques, equipment, safety protocols, and project management principles. This role requires excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to effectively manage resources, budgets, and schedules in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Planning & Execution:

    • Fully understand project scope, construction plans and details, and material specifications

    • Develop project plans, including scope, operations sequencing, material ordering and delivery schedules, trucking schedules, and resource allocation (personnel and equipment)

    • Identify requirements and submit requests for permitting, licensing, Dig-Safe, police traffic and traffic management, etc to ensure compliance with all local and state laws

    • Order materials to coincide with installation progress and schedule

    • Coordinate subcontractors as required to fulfill project contract obligations

    • Oversee the mobilization and demobilization of equipment and personnel

    • Collaborate with Field Manager to ensure successful execution of project

    • Conduct site inspections when required to monitor progress, quality, and safety compliance

  • Budget & Cost Management:

    • Manage project budgets, track expenses, and identify cost-saving opportunities

    • Prepare and submit progress reports, cost analyses, and financial forecasts

    • Approve invoices and ensure accurate billing

    • Negotiate pricing with material suppliers and subcontractors

  • Team Leadership & Management:

    • Foster a positive and productive work environment

    • Ensure all team members adhere to company policies and safety standards

  • Safety & Compliance:

    • Implement and enforce rigorous safety protocols and best practices on all job sites

    • Conduct regular safety meetings and toolbox talks

    • Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal safety regulations (e.g., OSHA)

    • Investigate and report any incidents or accidents

  • Client & Stakeholder Communication:

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers

    • Communicate project updates, potential issues, and solutions clearly and promptly

    • Manage client expectations and ensure satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle

  • Problem Solving:

    • Proactively identify potential risks, challenges, and delays

    • Develop and implement effective solutions to keep projects on track

    • Adapt to changing project requirements and site conditions

Qualifications

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in excavation or heavy civil construction, with at least 2-3 years in a project management or supervisory role

    • Proven track record of successfully managing multiple excavation projects simultaneously

  • Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of excavation techniques, grading, utility installation, and earthmoving equipment operation

    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, schematics, and survey data

    • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills

    • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities

    • Proficiency with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Asana, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Certifications/Licenses:

    • OSHA 30-hour certification (or willingness to obtain)

    • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

  • Attributes:

    • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision

    • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and safety

    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines

    • Strong leadership qualities and a team-player mentality

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking on uneven surfaces, including ground in varying weather conditions

  • May stoop, kneel, or bend on an occasional basis

  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on frequent basis

  • Occasionally climb stairs or ladders, etc

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Exposure to outdoor environment with machinery/equipment in the surrounding area

  • This position requires the use and safe operation of a personal and/or company vehicle

  • Able to wear personal protective equipment is required, including but not limited to steel toe shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc

  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times
