Job summary

Murphy is recruiting for a Site Engineering Manager to work with Energy on GGP - ATNC - Norwich to Tilbury in the United Kingdom. The role focuses on delivering major civil engineering and EPC activities across a multi-site project footprint, ensuring technical integrity, safety and timely execution.

Key duties include overseeing temporary works, coordinating with the client and design teams, and leading engineers through setting-out, materials management and risk controls.

Qualifications

  • Experience in major civil engineering or construction projects.
  • Experience with ITPs, RAMs & Temporary Works.
  • Ability to communicate and present to senior level management and clients.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering legislation, health & safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to develop, implement and manage safe systems of work for construction procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with temporary works design schemes and maintain client relations.
  • Advise engineers on setting out methods and techniques.
  • Ensure drawings and specs contain complete, accurate information for construction, and request missing details in time.
  • Communicate with foremen and supervisors to ensure understanding of information.
  • Oversee selection and requisition of materials and plant for construction.
  • Prepare risk assessments and method statements for works control.
  • Keep a full daily site diary with changes, subcontractors’ attendance and discussions with project team.
  • Ensure inspection and test plans are completed as required by PMP/Specification.

A day in the life of a Murphy Site Engineering Manager:
  • Assist with temporary works design schemes
  • Maintain good working relations with client / designer / Team, together with our supply chain.
  • Advise engineers on setting out methods and techniques.
  • Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works. Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay.
  • Communicate with foremen and supervisors to ensure full understanding of information provided.
  • Overseeing the selection and requisition of materials and plant for the use in the construction process.
  • Prepare written risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works.
  • Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any changes/variations, subcontractors’ attendance, and records of work related discussions with client / designer / project team.
  • Ensure that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP / Specification, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality.

  • Experience in Major Civil Engineering or Construction projects.
  • Experience within ITPs, RAMs & Temporary Works.
  • Ability and confidence to communicate and present to Top Level Management, Senior level clients and public.
  • Excellent knowledge of current civil engineering legislation as well as Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Ability and confidence to discuss engineering issues with people across various levels and disciplines.
  • Ability to produce, implement and manage safe systems of work for construction procedures.
