Site Engineer – Highways

Salary: 30 - 35K + PKG
Location: Portsmouth
Regions: Hampshire, South East

We are currently seeking a Site Engineer to work for a main civil engineering contractor who operates across the UK, specializing in various civil engineering projects including Highways, Structures, Infrastructure, and Rail. The role will be based in Hampshire near Portsmouth, on a local Highways scheme.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure project deliverables are fully understood through handover meetings with the process team (estimating, design, commercial, procurement, plant, and operations).
  • Monitor project performance daily with the project team, ensuring all actions, risks, and non-conformities are addressed promptly to maximize margins and reduce risks.
  • Prepare and collate contract documentation and ensure timely submission to the customer. Obtain all necessary approvals before mobilization to site.
  • Prepare site documentation for the site team and communicate deliverables to the site supervisor.
  • Record all changes to project deliverables with the customer, involving the commercial department as needed.
  • Review financial performance monthly and revise project forecasts weekly when applicable. Manage all contract purchases and costs.
  • Collaborate closely with the entire process team (operations, pre-construction, commercial, plant, business development, and design) to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Develop relationships with customers to understand their requirements and ensure they understand our business needs.
  • Ensure compliance with business strategy and procedures.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety – WORKSAFE HOMESAFE.

Personal Qualities and Experience

  • A degree in a construction-related subject is required, with some experience in ground engineering operations and design preferred. Candidates should have or be working towards a recognized qualification (e.g., ICE).
  • A valid CSCS card is essential.
  • Be focused, thorough, and possess the professionalism to advise senior management on urgent issues, with the tenacity to ensure necessary actions are taken.
  • Effective communication skills to convey ideas to team members and external parties; good commercial acumen and contract knowledge are important.
  • A desire for continuous innovation and development, with a focus on customer needs and ground engineering.
