Job summary

Barnwood is seeking a Site Engineer to join our delivery team. You will ensure projects are built to drawings, specifications and high quality, working with the Site Manager to set out, levels and dimensional control.

You will also supervise subcontractors, carry out as-built surveys, maintain detailed records, review drawings for clashes, coordinate RFIs with the design team, and support QA, handover and safe site practices.

Qualifications

• HNC, HND or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction or a related subject (or relevant experience).
• Valid CSCS card and SSSTS or SMSTS.
• First Aid at Work and Temporary Works Supervisor training.
• CPCS or NPORS card relevant to site activities.

Job description

Barnwood is looking for a Site Engineer to join our delivery team. You will make sure our projects are built accurately, to the drawings and specification, and to a high quality. Working alongside the Site Manager, you will be responsible for setting out, levels and dimensional control. You will also check our subcontractors' work and ensure accurate record keeping.

Key Responsibilities

Setting out and dimensional control

• Establish and maintain site control points, grid lines and datum levels.
• Set out foundations, drainage, structural frames, slabs, external works and other elements using a total station, GPS and level.
• Check subcontractor setting out and record lines, levels and tolerances before work proceeds.
• Carry out as built surveys and prepare records and drawings.

Quality

• Inspect work against drawings, specifications and inspection and test plans (ITPs).
• Raise and close out non-conformances and snagging and support the handover process.
• Keep clear quality records and photographic evidence, contributing to the project's golden thread of information.
• Make sure the latest drawing revisions are in use on site.

Technical coordination

• Review drawings and identify clashes, discrepancies or missing information early.
• Prepare and track requests for information (RFIs) with the design team.
• Coordinate the interfaces between trades and help sequence the works with the Site Manager.
• Support temporary works procedures, including checking permits to load and permits to dig where delegated.

Health, safety and environment

• Lead by example and follow Barnwood's health, safety and environmental standards at all times.
• Review subcontractor RAMS relating to engineering activities and deliver toolbox talks when required.
• Carry out services scans and checks before excavation, and help keep the site safe, tidy and well organised.

Commercial and programme support

• Provide measurements and records to support the Quantity Surveyor with valuations and variations.
• Record progress against the programme and flag risks to delivery early.
• Attend site meetings and keep accurate site diaries and records.

Qualifications

Experience

• Site engineering experience with a main contractor
• Setting out on a variety of construction projects
• Experience across a range of sectors such as education, health, commercial
• Experience of design and build projects

Technical skills

• Confident use of a total station, GPS and level
• Able to read and interpret drawings and specifications
• AutoCAD and BIM model viewers
• Common data environments such as Asite or Viewpoint
• Accurate, organised and with a strong eye for detail
• Good communicator who can work with subcontractors and the design team
• Committed to safety and quality
