About the role

Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a fantastic opportunity for a Site Engineer to join our team on the Highways A57 Link Road scheme. This role will be based at Ashton-under-Lyne, Manchester.

We provide high-quality asset strategy, management, and planning consultancy services to a wide range of public and private sector customers.

What you'll be doing

As a Site Engineer, you will coordinate a section of works, working alongside a team of Site Engineers and Graduate/Apprentice Engineers. You will lead and control site works, according to a specific discipline, for both self-delivered and sub-contract works. Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining comprehensive records of site works
  • Carrying out setting out and dimensional checks, understanding limitations of instruments and surveying methods
  • Maintaining survey records and producing as-built drawings
  • Reading and understanding engineering drawings (reinforcement, drainage, earthworks)
  • Supervising graduate/trainee engineers
  • Managing specific site operations, including subcontractors
  • Inputting into weekly programmes and producing short-term schedules
  • Monitoring construction activities for progress against programme
  • Contributing to the production of Permit to Dig, including workforce briefing
  • Carrying out onsite safety inspections and hazard identification
Who we're looking for

You will have the following:

  • Highways project experience
  • 2-3 years experience with a Tier 1 contractor
  • HND/HNC qualification in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Valid UK driving licence and CSCS card
  • Ability to work on own initiative and seek opportunities in line with responsibility level

Desirable skills include:

  • Basic understanding of temporary works, STATS and Utilities, lifting operations
  • Working towards professional qualifications
