Job summary

Careys Site Engineer role in St Andrews, United Kingdom, requires a Civil/Construction background with experience in setting out, surveying and coordinating with site teams on civils projects.

The position involves leading on-site procedures, mentoring graduates, reviewing drawings, and ensuring compliance and quality through all project stages.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Structural Engineering to HNC level or above.
• Track record delivering setting out and engineering processes on concrete frame projects.
• Ability to use CAD software for data transfer to/from single person working kit EDM preferable.
• Highly competent in surveying and setting out techniques and able to teach others.
• Experience in managing and mentoring Graduate and Apprentice engineers.

Responsibilities

• Carry out accurate setting out using surveying equipment.
• Check levels, dimensions and tolerances to ensure work is correct.
• Support the Senior Engineer in resolving technical queries and RFIs.
• Review drawings, raise issues early and ensure work is buildable and compliant.
• Plan and sequence works with Site Managers and Supervisors.
• Provide clear construction information to the workforce with sketches and mark-ups.
• Monitor progress and contribute to short-term planning.
• Maintain as-built records and support digital deliverables.
• Prepare Inspection & Test Plans and carry out quality checks on site.
• Identify issues early and support non-conformances resolution.
• Carry out material checks and ensure testing procedures.
• Assist with take-offs and scheduling of drainage, reinforcement and waterbars.
• Complete temporary works inspections and support simple temporary works designs.
• Supervise Apprentice and Graduate Engineers.
• Work with subcontractors and suppliers to support safe delivery.

Description

As a Site Engineer, you will support the technical delivery of civils and infrastructure projects. You will have a flair for technical complexity and detail, with a core motivation to engage with, innovate and inspire the teams around you. As an integral part of the operations team, your role will be key to the successful delivery of our projects.

Careys Engineers, work as part of a team interpreting engineering information and conveying this to the workforce, to ensure delivery of the project to programme and budget.

What you will be doing:

• Carry out accurate setting out using a variety of surveying equipment.
• Check levels, dimensions and tolerances to ensure work is completed correctly.
• Support the Senior Engineer in resolving technical queries and RFIs.
• Review drawings, raise issues early, and help ensure work is buildable and compliant.

• Work closely with Site Managers and Supervisors to plan and sequence works.
• Provide clear construction information to the workforce, including sketches and mark‑ups.

• Maintain accurate as‑built records and support digital deliverables.

• Supervise Apprentice and Graduate Engineers, offering day‑to‑day guidance.
• Work closely with subcontractors and suppliers to support safe and efficient delivery.
• Build strong relationships internally and externally to keep information flowing.

What you will bring:

• You will possess a qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Structural Engineering to HNC level or above
• A track record of delivering setting out and engineering processes on concrete frame projects.
