Job summary

Fawkes & Reece London is seeking a Site Engineer for a major civil engineering project in Northwest Wales (Snowdonia). Based in the Porthmadog area, you will perform setting out, interpret drawings, and coordinate with subcontractors to deliver pavement, drainage and other external works.

The candidate should have 2+ years in civil projects, be proficient with Leica TS16 and GPS, and hold a Civil Engineering degree or equivalent with CSCS. AutoCad competency and site QA experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Degree or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• CSCS card is required.
• Experience in setting out and site engineering on civil/infrastructure projects.
• Proficient with surveying instruments (Leica TS16) and GPS.

Responsibilities

• Set out works precisely from drawings, specs, and control points.
• Deliver external civil works such as pavement, road surfacing, kerbs, drainage.
• Operate Leica TS16 and GPS equipment for spatial data capture.
• Coordinate daily with subcontractors and site teams.
• Manage tasks from site setup to handover with strict quality, health & safety standards.
• Interpret drawings, method statements, and risk assessments.

Site Engineer - Tier 1 Contractor - Civil Engineering - Major Project - Northwest Wales (Snowdonia)

The role is for an engineer based in the Porthmadog area of North Wales to work on a major civils project.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years working on civil engineering projects, preferably undertaking setting out and other quality duties.

Duties:

• Core site engineering responsibilities, including precise setting out of works using engineering drawings, specifications, and control points.
• Deliver key elements of external civil works, such as pavement construction, road surfacing, kerb laying, and drainage installation, ensuring compliance with project and regulatory standards.
• Operating Leica TS16 Total Station and GPS surveying equipment for accurate spatial data capture and layout, supporting high-precision construction.
• Coordinate daily operations with subcontractors and site teams
• Manage the full project cycle of assigned tasks from site setup to final handover and maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
• Interpret and implement technical drawings, method statements, and risk assessments, contributing to safe and efficient on-site execution.

Person Specification:

• Degree or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• CSCS card (relevant to role).
• Proven experience in setting out and site engineering on civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
• Proficient in using surveying instruments such as Leica Total Stations (e.g., TS16) and GPS equipment.
• Strong knowledge of construction processes, site health & safety, and quality assurance procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and method statements.
• Competent in AutoCAD and basic site documentation/reporting.
