Site Engineer (Nights) - Highways - Peterborough

Job Type: Contract Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire Shift: Nights Start Date: ASAP

Are you an experienced Site Engineer with a strong background in highways and available for an immediate start on night shifts?

We have an urgent requirement for a dedicated and proficient Site Engineer to join a key highways project in the Peterborough area. Working on night shifts, you will be a crucial member of the site team, responsible for ensuring all engineering works are executed accurately, safely, and in line with the project programme.

Key Responsibilities:

• Undertaking all setting out, levelling, and surveying for night-time operations on the highways scheme.
• Overseeing and managing all on-site engineering activities during the night shift, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
• Interpreting technical drawings and providing clear instruction to the workforce.
• Maintaining strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards, which are critical during night work.
• Conducting quality control checks and inspections to ensure works meet the required standards.
• Keeping accurate and detailed site records, including daily diaries, as-built surveys, and progress reports for handover to the day shift.
• Resolving any technical issues or challenges that arise during the shift.
• Liaising with site management, the workforce, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient progress.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Proven experience as a Site Engineer on UK highways projects is essential.
• Previous experience working night shifts is highly advantageous.
• Proficient in setting out techniques and the use of modern surveying equipment (e.g., Total Station, GPS).
• Strong understanding of highways construction methodologies, specifications (e.g., DMRB, MCHW), and quality standards.
• A valid CSCS card is mandatory.
• Relevant qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related construction discipline (e.g., HNC, HND, Degree).
• Thorough knowledge of health and safety procedures, especially those pertaining to working at night and in a live traffic environment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.
