Job summary

Highfield Professional Solutions Ltd is seeking a Site Engineer to join a major highways project near Penrith, delivering works on the A66 for a Tier 1 contractor. You will lead and control site activities, maintain diaries, set out and check dimensions, supervise graduates, coordinate subcontractors and contribute to weekly programmes.

Qualifications

• Highways project experience.
• 2–3 years' experience with a Tier 1 contractor.
• Degree, HND or HNC in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
• Valid UK driving licence and CSCS card.
• SSSTS or SMSTS qualified.
• Strong understanding of construction site safety and current H&S legislation.
• Understanding of environmental issues and project environmental management plans.
• Solid knowledge of setting out techniques and ability to coach team members.
• Strong knowledge of construction processes in Earthworks/Drainage, Pavement, Comms, Structures, or Roadworks.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.

Responsibilities

• Leading and controlling site works for a specific discipline, across both self-delivered and subcontracted packages.
• Maintaining comprehensive site records, including detailed daily site diaries.
• Validating allocation sheets and carrying out setting out and dimensional checks.
• Maintaining survey records and producing as-built drawings.
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings (reinforcement, drainage, earthworks).
• Supervising graduate and trainee engineers.
• Managing specific site operations, including subcontractors.
• Contributing to weekly programmes and producing short-term schedules, monitoring progress against programme.
• Producing Works Package Plans, Method Statements, Risk Assessments and Task Briefing Sheets.
• Producing Permits to Dig and briefing the workforce accordingly.
• Delivering daily activity briefings, safety inspections and hazard identification.
• Contributing to quality documentation and raising workmanship/quality issues where needed.

Site Engineer - A66 Highways, Penrith

Our client, a Tier 1 principal contractor, is seeking an experienced Site Engineer to join the team delivering major highways works on the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine project near Penrith - one of National Highways' flagship road investment schemes, upgrading the A66 to dual carriageway between the M6 and Scotch Corner.

This is a great opportunity for a highways-experienced Site Engineer to join a high-profile, long-running National Highways scheme with genuine scope to extend well beyond the initial contract.

What You'll Be Doing

• Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks

Desirable

• Basic understanding of temporary works
• Basic understanding of utilities
• Basic understanding of lifting operations
• Working towards a professional qualification (ICE, CIHT etc.)
