Job summary

Carrington West are seeking a Site Engineer for highways works in Goole to start immediately on an outside IR35 contract. You will supervise earthworks, drainage and pavement construction, set out with total stations and GPS, and maintain quality, safety records and accurate site diaries.

The role requires a Civil Engineering qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent), CSCS card and a valid UK driving licence; SMSTS/SSSTS is a plus. Rate: £350–£370 per day, duration two months.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
• Experience as Site Engineer on highways/roads projects.
• CSCS card and a valid UK driving licence.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise highway construction activities including earthworks, drainage, pavement construction.
• Set out and survey using total stations and GPS, maintaining accurate levels.
• Carry out site inspections to monitor progress, workmanship and quality.
• Ensure works follow drawings, specifications and standards.
• Work with subcontractors and site teams for timely delivery.
• Maintain site records, diaries, progress reports and safety records.
• Assist with method statements, risk assessments and permits to work.
• Support health, safety and environmental requirements on site.
• Identify issues and work with the project team to resolve them.

Are you a Site Engineer wanting an outside IR35 contract?

As Site Engineer you will be tasked with:

• Coordinating and supervising highway construction activities, including earthworks, drainage, pavement construction and associated civil engineering works.
• Setting out and surveying works using equipment such as total stations and GPS, ensuring accurate levels and alignments.
• Carrying out regular site inspections to monitor progress, workmanship and quality.
• Ensuring works are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and relevant construction standards.
• Working closely with subcontractors, suppliers and site teams to maintain effective project delivery.
• Maintaining accurate site records, including site diaries, progress reports, quality documentation and safety records.
• Assisting with method statements, risk assessments and permits to work.
• Supporting the implementation of health, safety and environmental requirements across the site.
• Identifying technical or site-related issues and working with the wider project team to resolve them efficiently.
• Monitoring progress and supporting project cost and budget control.

You will also hold:

• An HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Previous experience working as a Site Engineer within highways, roads or a closely related civil engineering environment.
• A good understanding of construction standards, specifications and health and safety requirements.
• Experience with setting out and surveying equipment, including total stations and GPS.
• The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong communication and organisational skills, with the confidence to work with site teams, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
• A valid CSCS card or equivalent.
• A valid UK driving licence.
• An SMSTS or SSSTS qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
