Job description

A leading civil engineering and groundworks contractor with a strong reputation across Scotland is seeking an experienced Site Engineer to support a wide range of infrastructure and housing development projects. Known for their down-to-earth attitude, high standards, and collaborative working culture, this is a business where engineers are trusted, supported, and genuinely valued.

As Site Engineer you will be based in the East of Scotland and you’ll be responsible for ensuring that works on-site are delivered safely, accurately, and in line with technical specifications, while maintaining clear and proactive communication with project teams and clients.

About the Role

This role is central to the successful delivery of multiple live sites. You’ll work closely with the construction and engineering teams to manage technical delivery, site surveys, quality control, and the implementation of design information. You'll also contribute to mentoring trainee engineers and supporting the continuous improvement of site-based engineering practices.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing engineering workloads and liaising closely with site teams, contracts managers, and the chief engineer
  • Interpreting drawings and implementing civil works in line with project specs
  • Supporting and mentoring trainee engineers on site
  • Preparing drainage take-offs and maintaining Request for Information (RFI) logs throughout the project lifecycle
  • Attending site, client, and pre-start meetings as required
  • Assisting with value engineering reviews and proposing practical site-based solutions
  • Maintaining site quality records and completing as-built surveys and documentation for O&M manuals
  • Reviewing documentation, drawings, and revisions received from the design team or document controllers
  • Problem-solving on site to resolve design or construction issues quickly and effectively
  • Ensuring compliance with internal procedures set out in the Engineers Handbook
  • Archiving correspondence and maintaining an organised project email record

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, site-based role. You should be organised, methodical, and confident in your technical understanding of civil engineering and groundworks.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Site Engineer on groundworks or infrastructure projects
  • Good working knowledge of civil construction processes and sequencing
  • The ability to interpret and implement technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to teamwork
  • Confidence to liaise with site management, clients, and the wider project team
  • Experience using engineering tools such as total stations, GPS, and AutoCAD
  • A passion for maintaining high-quality standards and mentoring junior engineers
