Job description

Working in partnership with M&S, at Gist we deliver industry-leading logistics and supply chain transformation.

We value, celebrate, and believe in the power of individuality and strive to create a work environment where everyone can be themselves. We want you to join us, bring your authentic self to work and unlock your full potential.

At Gist, we're building one of our newest distribution centres in partnership with M&S, and we're looking for skilled engineers to help bring it to life.

From day one, you'll play a vital role in keeping our operation running safely and efficiently, maintaining the facilities, infrastructure and engineering assets that support a fast-paced logistics environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a brand-new site where you'll help establish engineering standards, work with modern equipment and become part of the team that keeps the operation moving.

About the Role

As a Site Engineer, you'll be responsible for delivering both planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across the site, ensuring our facilities and equipment remain safe, compliant and operational.

Working alongside the Site Engineering Manager and wider engineering team, you'll diagnose faults, complete repairs, support continuous improvement initiatives and help minimise downtime across the operation.

No two days will be the same, and your work will have a direct impact on keeping one of Gist's newest logistics sites performing at its best.

What You'll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering planned preventative maintenance across site facilities and engineering assets.
  • Responding quickly to equipment breakdowns and carrying out effective repairs.
  • Diagnosing faults and delivering first-time fixes wherever possible.
  • Maintaining building services and site infrastructure to the highest standards.
  • Carrying out inspections to ensure the site remains safe, compliant and operational.
  • Acting as the site's Legionella Responsible Person, ensuring water systems meet statutory requirements.
  • Supporting refrigeration systems and general building services maintenance.
  • Completing engineering documentation accurately using maintenance management systems.
  • Working safely in line with engineering procedures, legislation and company policies.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives that enhance reliability and reduce downtime.
What We're Looking For

You'll bring:

  • Experience within facilities engineering, industrial maintenance or building services.
  • A practical, hands‑on approach with excellent fault‑finding skills.
  • Experience working across multiple engineering disciplines, including:
    • Plumbing
    • Welding
    • Hydraulics
    • Pneumatics
    • Electrical systems
  • A solid understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles.
  • The ability to prioritise workloads within a fast-moving operational environment.
  • A proactive approach to health, safety and compliance.
  • Experience working within a unionised environment would be advantageous.
Why Join Gist?

This is your opportunity to be part of something from the very beginning.

Rather than joining an established site, you'll help shape a new engineering function, working with modern facilities and supporting the successful launch of one of Gist's newest operations.

In return, you'll benefit from:

  • The opportunity to join a brand-new logistics operation.
  • Modern facilities and engineering equipment.
  • Ongoing training and career development.
  • A collaborative engineering team where your ideas are valued.
  • The chance to make a genuine impact from day one.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
Our Culture

At Gist, safety and people come first. We believe everyone performs at their best when they can bring their authentic selves to work, and we're committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued, respected and supported.

If you require any reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process, please let us know. We're committed to ensuring every candidate has a fair and positive experience.
