Job summary

Bath & North East Somerset Council is seeking a reliable Site Cleaner / Litter Picker for the Keynsham Recycling Hub. You will maintain high standards of cleanliness, assist with waste segregation and ensure safe working conditions across busy depot areas.

This physically active role requires outdoor work in all weather, manual handling, and the ability to operate cleaning equipment under COSHH guidance. Prior cleaning or grounds experience is advantageous and reliability is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in site cleaning, litter picking, or related grounds/waste roles is desirable.
• Physically fit and able to lift, push, pull, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Reliable, with good timekeeping and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Knowledge of cleaning products, COSHH procedures, and waste segregation is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out litter picking across the recycling hub, yard areas, access roads and operational zones.
• Removing litter, rubbish, waste materials and debris to maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Emptying waste bins and replacing liners as required.
• Sweeping and cleaning yard areas, pedestrian routes, welfare facilities, entrances and communal areas.
• Collecting, segregating and disposing of waste in accordance with site procedures.
• Reporting fly-tipping, spillages, damaged infrastructure and health and safety hazards.
• Assisting with leaf clearance and vegetation control.
• Operating cleaning equipment where trained and authorised.
• Using cleaning products and chemicals safely in accordance with COSHH procedures.
• Maintaining cleaning tools and equipment.
• Supporting emergency clean-up duties when required.
• Maintaining basic records and reporting issues to supervisors.
• Undertaking any other reasonable duties requested by management.

Based at Keynsham Recycling Hub, the team supports the efficient operation of the recycling depot and helps ensure high standards of site presentation, environmental compliance and health and safety are maintained at all times.

About The Role

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Site Cleaner / Litter Picker to join our team at the Keynsham Recycling Hub. This role is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, housekeeping and site presentation across our busy recycling depot.

Key Responsibilities Will Include

• Carrying out litter picking duties across the recycling hub, yard areas, access roads and operational zones.

This is a physically active outdoor role involving extensive walking and standing, frequent lifting and carrying, and working within a busy operational recycling environment exposed to dust, noise and varying weather conditions.

About You

You will be able to work safely and follow site procedures, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and housekeeping. You will be physically fit and capable of undertaking manual duties including walking, lifting, bending, pushing and pulling, and be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. You will have good timekeeping, attendance and reliability, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintaining a clean and safe environment are essential.

It would also be helpful if you have previous experience in site cleaning, litter picking, grounds maintenance or waste management. Knowledge of cleaning products and equipment, Manual Handling training, a Basic First Aid qualification, and knowledge of waste segregation and environmental compliance would be advantageous
