Immediate start available

Play a pivotal role in the future of environmental chemistry and hazardous waste innovation.

Synergy Excel Group is looking for an experienced Site Chemist to join our growing team at Synergy Recycling and Excel Trading, based in Canterbury. This is a hands-on, multifaceted role working at the forefront of environmental compliance, site operations, and global waste logistics.

About the Role

Within Synergy Recycling you will work closely with the Site Manager, Compliance Manager, and Operations Director as we bring new technologies online under our Environmental Permit focused on the transfer, purification, and testing of hazardous and non-hazardous gases.

In parallel under Excel Trading, you’ll support the Operations Director, managing Transfrontier Shipment (TFS) applications and acting as a central liaison for the safe and compliant movement of hazardous wastes under our Ministry of Defence overseas contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site chemical testing, waste characterisation, and compliance verification.
  • Ensure regulatory adherence under our new environmental permit framework.
  • Assist in commissioning and operationalising new gas treatment technologies.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for TFS applications and liaise with international partners, regulators, and the Environment Agency.
  • Support technical documentation and operational reporting across both business units.

Who We’re Looking For

This role blends technical lab work, field operations, and regulatory engagement—perfect for a chemist who enjoys a challenge and values real-world impact.

You’ll need:

  • A minimum BSc in Chemistry or closely related field.
  • 5+ years' industry experience, ideally in waste, chemicals, or environmental sectors.
  • A strong grasp of health, safety and environmental compliance.
  • Hands-on ability with plant-based work and openness to occasional travel.
  • Excellent attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and confidence dealing with regulators.
  • An eagerness to learn – especially in the niche but vital area of TFS (training provided).

Salary & Progression

  • Starting salary: £35,000 during the 6-month probation period
  • Progression to £40,000+ upon successful completion and demonstrated performance
  • Opportunities for continued development and leadership as the group scales

Why Work with Us?

At Synergy Excel Group, we’re not just managing waste—we're innovating how it’s handled for a cleaner, more efficient future. You’ll join a mission-led team working on complex, important challenges in both the public and private sectors. This is your opportunity to make a real difference while developing a niche skill set in a supportive, growing organisation.
