Job Description:

Full-time and permanent opening to join our team at our major grain storage and export facility in Shoreham Port, Shoreham Silo Services Ltd.

We support farmers across the southern counties of the UK helping them to grow cereal crops of wheat, oats and barley. Finished crops are stored at our site in Shoreham Port where we are able to dry them and offer long-term grain storage under the right conditions.

Crop cargoes are eventually loaded out of the silos and onto waiting ships at the quayside, destined for our international markets.

The role is varied and hands-on and will support the site manager with all the daily operations.

Main Duties:

  • Sampling arriving lorry loads of grain and testing cereal crops for quality on arrival before tipping and intake, overseeing the intake process and liaising with drivers.
  • Completing crop quality tests and recording the captured data onto our internal database system for our quality control process.
  • Escalating any problems with incoming loads or where we may not be able to accept a load if it is not to the required standard.
  • Assist with the ship loading operation, learning how to operate the spout which will involve working from height.
  • Learn how to operate the control panel, which controls the movements of grain within the silos.
  • Learn about grain storage and the conditions that we are required to uphold and maintain.
Other Details:

The role is fairly active, with some manual handling, time on your feet, the site is open air and there will be some working from height.

Hours will need to be flexible at key times of the year, with some evening and weekend work at Harvest time and depending on shipping schedules.

About You:

Enthusiastic and practically minded, you will be willing to get involved with all the many aspects of running and maintaining the site.

Relevant background experience in logistics operations, forklift truck operations, storage facility processes or another comparable industry would be useful background experience.

A fork-lift truck license or experience of using a fork-lift would be preferred, although refresher training can be arranged.

Familiar with Microsoft packages, excel, outlook etc to be able to use our internal software/database.

Enthusiastic and practically minded, you will be willing to get involved with all the many aspects of running and maintaining the site and become an integral member of the team so that you can be relied on to provide absence cover.

A UK Drivers licence would be preferable with early starts/later days in the main season, or ability to reach the site easily.
