Exciting Opportunity: Site Engineer for Highway Project in North Scotland

Role Overview Our client, a highly respected name in civil engineering and infrastructure—well-regarded for their commitment to staff development, low turnover, and leadership in renewable-focused projects—is seeking an experienced Site Engineer. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a major highway project that will bring long-lasting benefits to North Scotland.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Engineering Support: Assist the senior project team in implementing the engineering strategy for the project.
  2. Resource Management: Oversee materials, equipment, and labour within budget, ensuring their safe and efficient use on site.
  3. Communication: Ensure all design details, procedures, and quality systems are effectively communicated.
  4. Technical Guidance: Verify work quality, provide technical support, and ensure high standards across project teams.
  5. Audits & Meetings: Conduct audits and lead regular meetings to highlight best practices, address safety issues, and identify areas for improvement.
  6. Stakeholder Relations: Build and sustain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and suppliers to support project success.
  7. Industry Awareness: Stay current with trends and new technologies to maintain technical excellence.
  8. Team Leadership: Motivate and coach team members, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  9. Engineering Task Management: Address engineering tasks efficiently, accounting for site constraints, regulatory requirements, and client needs.
  10. Procurement Oversight: Support procurement and material control, including schedules and cost reports.
  11. Quality Control: Implement quality control measures to meet client expectations and ensure successful project delivery.
  12. Reporting: Provide accurate weekly and monthly progress updates to senior management.
  13. Project Feedback: Offer feedback on project performance to improve future estimating.
  14. Digital Tools: Employ digital tools to support project execution where possible.
  15. Safety Commitment: Uphold Balfour Beatty’s values, prioritising safety and Zero Harm.
  16. Sustainability: Contribute to CSUK’s sustainability objectives.

Skills & Qualifications

  1. Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  2. Demonstrable engineering experience and expertise in your area.
  3. Current knowledge of engineering standards and best practices.
  4. Valid CSCS card.
  5. Keen attention to detail, with the ability to advise on urgent issues and drive solutions.
  6. Previous management experience in construction or related sectors, with an understanding of industry trends.
  7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused, flexible approach.
  8. Knowledge of BIM models and report generation (advantageous).
  9. Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to site as needed.
