Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to support the Ward Manager and team of nursing staff within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) / Acute Medical Assessment (AMA) and Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shrewsbury. The candidate will require extensive post registration experience.

Responsibilities
  • You will be an experienced RGN and be able to lead and assess the work of the nursing team, building upon your own clinical and managerial experience.
  • The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting the Ward Manager with the continuous improvement of the department, effectively monitoring and maintaining excellent standards of care that are reflected by patient experience. Sound clinical knowledge and experience in an acute medical setting is essential.
  • The successful candidate must have a proven ability in supervising, managing and controlling the activities of a department in an efficient and effective manner. This will involve the assessment and implementation of appropriate care for new and current patients whilst ensuring adequate staffing levels are maintained and resources used appropriately.
  • Showing commitment and direction to the team as a whole you will actively participate in the teaching, training and supervision of all grades of staff. You will be required to be receptive to change, be dynamic and demonstrate active assistance and support to your more senior colleagues in the ongoing development of the department.
  • You must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will have a proactive management style, anticipating and dealing with issues constructively within the multidisciplinary team setting. You must be flexible in your approach to the role and respond appropriately to the demands of an ever-changing workload.
  • The successful candidate will be able to be a role model for continuous professional behaviour and demonstrate the core values of the Trust. They will be able to show an enthusiastic approach and friendly manner towards patients, nurses and the multidisciplinary team.
