Job description

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our busy, dynamic nursing team in the Emergency Department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH).

This is a demanding role that requires dedication and a positive attitude towards change. With emergency care continually evolving, this is an exciting opportunity to provide innovative healthcare services to our patients and help develop the department for the future of emergency services within our Trust.

The successful candidate must have proven ability in supervising, managing, and controlling the activities of a unit effectively and efficiently.

You will be a clinical role model, with a willingness to develop both the team and your own professional growth.

Excellent communication skills, high clinical standards, and a passion to make a difference for patients and staff are essential.

There will be opportunities to work across sites.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work closely with the Band 7 Senior Nursing team. You will develop strong links with all members of the MDT and assessment areas, ensuring patient care of the highest standard.

In conjunction with the ward/department manager, you will oversee the day-to-day supervision of your ward/department/team, effectively motivating and directing staff to manage time and resources through teamwork.

You will ensure staff are clear on their duties, accountable, and aware of performance and conduct standards expected during their shifts.

Working for your organisation

The department has recently undergone refurbishment, including an extension to our majors area, ARA (ambulance arrivals), a dedicated paediatric area, and a Urgent Treatment Centre for minors and GP stream. Our workforce is growing, and recruitment is successful. This is a very exciting time to join our ED, with opportunities for development through formal Royal College Nursing - Emergency Nurse Competency-based assessments with accreditation supporting nurses to work in majors, minors, resus, paediatrics, and mental health. Our Professional Education Facilitators will guide you through robust training programs, linked with your Band 7 clinical team leader. We also hold ED study days led by the ED team, focusing on skills and knowledge aligned with the Royal College of Nursing competency framework.
