Job overview

The CYPDU is seeking a highly motivated Senior Sister/Charge Nurse for a 12-month fixed-term secondment to cover maternity leave. The ideal candidate will have experience as a Band 6 Staff Nurse, with background in SACT administration, Intrathecal and Recovery competencies, and staff management including workforce planning and administration.

We seek a candidate with drive and passion to lead our nursing team and manage projects to improve patient experience. The role involves providing strong, proactive clinical leadership, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and upholding the trust’s values of innovation, excellence, collaboration, and kindness.

Main duties of the job
  • Create and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Coordinate all functions within the clinical environment, including private patients.
  • Manage resources within budget, including finance, equipment, and staffing.
  • Provide motivating and supportive clinical leadership to nursing and support staff.
  • Support a learning environment that promotes professional development and evidence-based practice.

  • Manage a coordinated nursing service in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain clinical credibility through practice and research, ensuring high-quality care.
  • Regularly review nursing practice, participate in audits, and adhere to policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure continuity of quality nursing care, including safe discharges.
  • Maintain quality, safety, and performance metrics.
  • Monitor clinical incidents and develop strategies to prevent recurrence.
