We are currently recruiting for an experienced senior nurse to join our established Inpatient Adult Care team.
You will act as a Sister/Charge Nurse, managing and leading the in-patient unit during your scheduled shifts; you will be pivotal in delivering exceptional care to our patients and families.
This role consists of two 12.5 hour shifts per week, with a mix of both night, day, and weekend shifts as required, on a rostered basis.
Main duties of the job
- Regularly takes responsibility for being the nurse in charge, formulating plans for patient care, managing frequent changes, and leading the shift.
- Responsible for delegating workload to staff, ensure nursing care is delivered to the highest standard and reflects the needs of the patient.
- Manage and lead the inpatient team, promoting a positive, inclusive organizational culture.

Job responsibilities
- Take responsibility as nurse in charge, conducting holistic assessments and developing individualized care plans, managing changes, and leading shifts.
- Delegate workload, ensure high standards of nursing care, and include family or carers in care decisions where appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Assess and interpret patient conditions and act accordingly.
- Coordinate with other healthcare professionals across primary and secondary care settings.
- Adhere to medicines management policies.
- Advocate for patients, children, and young people.
- Support families and carers before and after a death, involving relevant agencies.
- Lead communication efforts, especially with distressed patients and relatives, providing supervision and support to the team.
- Assist medical staff with patient discussions and management.
- Provide specialist palliative clinical care, participate in staff education, and mentor students.
- Handle challenging situations involving bodily fluids, odours, and other stressors.
- Support community hospice services and RADs patients.
- Make and justify decisions on complex priorities and escalate concerns when necessary.
- Participate in complex moving and handling procedures with specialized equipment.
- Lead shifts lasting up to 13 hours, including day, night, and weekend shifts.
- Act up in the absence of the Ward Manager with support from the IPU Matron.
Person Specification
Skills & Experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Sector Experience
- First-level Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
- Current NMC registration.
- Post-registration education up to Post Graduate Diploma level or equivalent, such as management or palliative care.
- Experience managing and leading nursing shifts.
- Proven mentoring and management of healthcare teams.
- Experience working in the charity sector is desirable.

Salary: £35,392 to £42,618 per year, with an AfC competitive salary.
