Job summary

Totnes Community Hospital in Totnes is seeking an experienced Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to lead a 16-bed acute ward and coordinate multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure high-quality patient care.

You will assess care needs, support discharge planning and act as a clinical advisor on nursing issues to maintain dignity and safety. The role offers development under the ward manager with a focus on compassionate leadership.

Qualifications

  • NMC registration is required.
  • Evidence of continual professional development (CPD).
  • Practice Assessor, evidence of postgraduate study.
  • Leadership qualification and recent registered nursing experience.
  • Senior band 5 coordinating in an acute ward setting.
  • Safe and competent practitioner aware of own limitations and needs; able to work flexibly across a 24 hour rota.
  • Willingness to learn new skills; shift work.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and teamwork; articulate verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the ward to maintain flow and patients' journey.
  • Assess the care needs of patients and families; support discharge planning.
  • Participate as a skilled MDT member and act as clinical advisor on nursing issues.
  • Provide direct care and maintain high standards of compassionate care while upholding patient dignity.
  • Encourage evidence-based practice and professional development within the team.

Job description

Work as part of a team both on the ward as a band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse, but also with other multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure a seamless delivery of service Co-ordinate the ward to maintain flow and the patients journey Assess the care needs of the patients and their families. To support the team to develop, implement & evaluate the care to a high standard, whilst demonstrating a compassionate nature and maintaining patients dignity Participate as a skilled member of the multi-disciplinary team Act as clinical advisor on nursing issues to ensure a high-standard of care is maintained utilising evidence-based practice Participate in direct care and to facilitate sound discharge planning, Full Vacancy details can be found on the attached Job Description/Person Specification.
