An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 registered nurse to join our multidisciplinary team within the Wakefield Intermediate Care Unit, based at Pontefract Hospital.
The Wakefield Intermediate Care Unit is a 22-bedded Unit that provides short term inpatient care to people who need extra support, care and rehabilitation following an acute hospital stay.
Our expert multi-disciplinary team includes registered and non-registered nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and a wider support team who work in partnership with our patients and their families to provide the care they need and to support their safe and timely discharge home.
Main duties of the job
Responsibilities include:
- Provision of high levels of clinical and professional leadership, supporting the management team to implement clinical and operational policies, protocols, and service / practice development and change.
- Demonstrating clinical expertise in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care to meet patient needs and Unit objectives.
- Coordinating and supervising shifts, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the multidisciplinary team.
- Supervising and supporting other staff members, including non-registered staff and learners.
- Supporting the professional development of other staff, including training and mentorship.
- Contributing to the overall management and organisation of the Unit, including managing resources and budgets.
- Assuming responsibility for the effective operation of the Unit in the absence of the Unit Manager
- Consistently acting in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

CLINICALLEADERSHIP:

- Mentor and supervise pre and post registeredstaff; demonstrate procedures to pre and post registered nursing staff withoutdirect supervision, always promoting a high standard of best practice, qualitynursing care.
- Ensure that nursing practices comply withTrust policies and procedures and are maintained at the highest standard.
- Within the frame of clinical governanceassist the Unit Manager to be proactive in responding to andinvestigating complaints, clinical and non-clinical incidents to ensure robustsystems are in place for informing and improving evidence based practice.
- Respond to patient, relatives and carersconcerns as they arise and take action as required.
- Assist in maintaining a safe clinicalenvironment through participation in risk management processes, through audit,risk assessment, managing, reporting and investigating incidents.
