A leading NHS Trust in England is seeking a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to provide specialist nursing care on the Cardiology ward. The successful candidate will manage the ward in the absence of senior staff while demonstrating effective communication and teamwork. Ideal candidates will possess cardiology experience and a first level registration qualification. A commitment to professional development and the 6 Cs of Nursing is essential. Responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of patient care. Co-ordinate the Nursing team to ensure the effective delivery of care. When delegated to do so; manage the ward in the absence of the Senior Sister / Unit Lead Nurse. Give effective specialist nursing care to the patients on the Cardiology ward. Demonstrate, supervise & lead learners in delivery of high quality Nursing & specialist care. Show commitment to the 6 Cs of Nursing and demonstrate exemplary Nursing practice and national standards for the Nursing, Assessment, Performance Framework (NAPF).
Maintain accurate clinical observations of the patients condition invasively and/or non invasively. Co-ordinate the implementation of a treatment plan for individuals diagnosed with coronary heart diseases and other conditions. Interpret the significance of clinical data through analysis of presenting signs and symptoms, 12 lead ECG performing and recognition, invasive monitoring (arterial and central), and adjust / administers prescribed therapy accordingly. Recognise peri-arrest / cardiac arrest situations using the ABCDE approach and initiate appropriate therapy (e.g. drugs, CPR, transcutaneous pacing). Work towards NAPF recommendations.
Act as a learning resource for pre and post registration staff (nursing, paramedical & rotators from Cath lab & CCU) and provide education about cardiology nursing, policies & procedures. Take an active role in daily ward rounds, advocating for patients and able to provide reasoned arguments. Maintain timely patient records by inputting episodes of admission, transfer & discharge into CERNER & Miyaflow systems. In the absence of the Ward Manager, respond to messages and take appropriate action to ensure the day-to-day running of the unit. Demonstrate effective communication across roles and settings.
Assessor of Nursing: establish functional capabilities in emergency presentations, gather care details, maintain accurate clinical observations, assess individuals with suspected coronary heart disease, take presenting history, assess psychological, emotional or social rehabilitation needs, conduct pre-intervention assessments and complete relevant documentation. Planner of Nursing: prioritise and refer for further assessment, support individuals through the process of dying, develop, implement and review care plans, coordinate treatment plans for coronary heart diseases and other conditions, assess presenting conditions and determine appropriate interventions, prioritise interventions and facilitate effective early discharge planning. Practitioner of Nursing: provide specialist care, administer drugs and treatments per policy, interpret clinical data, recognise peri-arrest / cardiac arrest situations, manage transvenous pacing, venepuncture and cannulation, ensure infection control standards and audits, manage transfers and escort for specialised care, access clinical results via ICE, PACS, Horizon, medcon, and coordinate referrals. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and MDT; participate in daily ward rounds; manage patient flow and 4-hour waiting targets; use SBAR for handovers; mentor learners; report concerns to Ward Manager/Matron.

Salary information: The advertised salary is for full-time hours; for less than 37.5 hours per week, pay is pro-rata. For Agenda for Change posts, new NHS entrants typically start at the first pay point of the relevant band. This vacancy may close earlier if sufficient applications are received.
