Job summary

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking two enthusiastic Urology nurses to join the dynamic team in Queens Hospital Burton on Trent. You will support care for uro-oncology patients, work autonomously within a specialist MDT, and help manage referrals from triage to diagnosis.

The role requires NMC registration and a degree or equivalent experience, with a focus on clear communication and compassionate patient care.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two enthusiastic and innovative nurses to join our very dynamic and friendly team based in the Urology department at Queens Hospital Burton on Trent. To apply for this post, you should ideally have previous experience in Urology nursing.

As a specialist nurse you will possess the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team, supporting the care of Uro/oncology patients across the trust and liaising with primary care colleagues. You will work closely with other members of the specialist multidisciplinary team and therefore require excellent communication skills.

You will be expected to participate in the MDT meetings and develop your skills and knowledge to assist in the management of patients attending for various Uro/oncology appointments including Local anaesthetic prostate biopsy, Triage of Urology patients and ordering the relevant investigations for patients. As a triage nurse you will work as part of a team managing the patients from referral through to diagnosis.

Main duties of the job

• To facilitate a faster diagnosis for patients on a 28-day pathway and provide care and support for patients on suspected cancer pathway.
• Triage patients referred onto the suspected cancer pathway
• Support faster diagnosis and improve outcomes for patients with suspected cancer by organising appropriate investigations
• Review and action on results of investigations, within the post holders’ scope of practice
• Improve patient experience by ensuring effective communication and being a point of contact within the CNS team
• Escalate concerns or results to senior colleagues that are outside the nurses’ current scope of practice
• To be responsible in ensuring that telephone clinics run in a timely fashion and that all patients are contacted that are listed for clinical review
• A clear understanding of the surgical nursing, cancer pathways, and be committed to improving patient experience.
• To be committed to the development of specialist nursing practice and demonstrate evidence of ongoing professional and academic development.
