Job summary

Avara Foods is seeking an experienced Multi Skilled Engineer to maintain our animal feed manufacturing facility in Allensmore, Hereford. The role focuses on preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs and continuous improvement to maximise plant performance.

You will work on a rotating day/night pattern averaging 42 hours per week, with a strong emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance. Level 3 qualification and 18th Edition are desirable, with training and progression opportunities

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Level 3 engineering qualification required.
• 18th Edition qualification advantageous; multi-skilled experience beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs on plant and equipment.
• Diagnose faults, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Minimise downtime through fast and effective response to equipment failures.
• Communicate breakdowns and maintenance issues to management and operational teams.
• Accurately record maintenance activities and parts usage via the CMMS system.
• Maintain engineering and hygiene standards across the site.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company policies and legislative requirements.
• Support audits and maintain engineering compliance standards.
• Complete process weigher and liquid meter calibrations per regulatory requirements.
• Work safely within hazardous environments including confined spaces, hot work, and working at height.
• Support mechanical projects (conveyors, elevators, installations, refurbishments).
• Support electrical projects (panel installation, PLC upgrades, PAT testing, thermographic surveys).
• Operate and maintain effluent treatment systems for environmental compliance.
• Maintain and support fire protection and suppression systems.
• Demonstrate understanding of DSEAR, dust control, and explosion mitigation.

Avara Foods is looking for a motivated and proactive Multi Skilled Engineer to join our Engineering team at our Feed Mill in Allensmore, Hereford.

This role would suit someone with a Level 3 Engineering qualification and experience working in a manufacturing environment. An 18th Edition qualification and multi-skilled experience would be advantageous.

• Single Skilled Engineer Salary: £36,756.72 per annum
• Multi Skilled Engineer Salary: £40,818.96 per annum
• Shift Premium: £7,550 per annum

The Role

As a Multi Skilled Engineer, you will play a vital role in maintaining the safe and efficient operation of our animal feed manufacturing facility. You'll be responsible for maximising plant performance, reducing downtime and supporting continuous improvement through preventative and reactive maintenance activities.

This is a fast-paced manufacturing environment where maintaining high standards of safety, hygiene and engineering excellence is essential.
