Job description

About The Role

Our Singing for the Brain sessions offer people affected by dementia a chance to enjoy a fun activity within a supportive environment, and we need your help to make this happen!

Singing for the Brain is a structured group session, designed around the principles of music therapy and singing, for people with dementia, who may attend alone or with a carer. These uplifting sessions provide an enjoyable activity and the opportunity to socialise with others affected by dementia.

As a Singing for the Brain Support Volunteer, you’ll welcome and chat with people with dementia, helping them feel at ease. During the session, you’ll encourage participation and support the session facilitator with activities, either online or in person.

The group meets on Tuesdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon (30 weeks a year). Dates will be shared at interview.
Location: Windmill Community Centre, Rye Grass Lane, Redditch B97 5Y

You’ll be great for this role if:

  • Have an interest in developing meaningful relationships and making a real difference.
  • Want to help people with dementia find their voice through music in a rewarding role.
  • Are fun and enthusiastic.
  • Can listen with compassion.
  • If supporting virtual sessions, can navigate online platforms and use Zoom confidently.
  • Experience of dementia is not essential, nor is the ability to sing!

If completing online applications is difficult, please contact us via email or phone for support. Reach the Volunteering Support Team at volunteering@alzheimers.org.uk or call 0300 222 5706.

Minimum age: 16
