Job description

About The Role

Our Singing for the Brain sessions offer people affected by dementia a chance to enjoy a fun activity within a supportive environment, and we need your help to make this happen!

Singing for the Brain is a structured group session based on principles of music therapy and singing, designed for people with dementia, who may attend alone or with a carer. These uplifting sessions provide an enjoyable activity and an opportunity to socialise with others affected by dementia.

As a Singing for the Brain Support Volunteer, you’ll welcome and converse with people with dementia, helping them feel at ease. During the session, you’ll encourage participation and support the session facilitator with activities, either online or in person.

This group meets at St Mary's Church, Church Lane, Old Basing, RG24 7DJ, on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday afternoons of each month, from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm.

You’ll be a good fit if:

  • You are interested in developing meaningful relationships and making a difference.
  • You want to help people with dementia find their voice through music in a rewarding role.
  • You are fun and enthusiastic.
  • You can listen with compassion.
  • If supporting virtual sessions, you can navigate online platforms confidently, especially Zoom.
  • Experience with dementia or singing is not required.

If online application completion is challenging, please contact us by email at volunteering@alzheimers.org.uk or call 0300 222 5706 for support.

Minimum age: 16
