Simulation and Verification Engineer - HVDC (Glasgow or Birmingham), Birmingham

This role at Hitachi Energy focuses on control & protection software design for HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) systems, which are crucial for long-distance energy transfer, offshore wind power, and underwater transmissions. The engineer will be involved in all phases of delivery, including design, testing, integration, verification, and deployment of control functions, as well as documentation and customer training. The position offers opportunities for international travel and can be based in Glasgow or Birmingham, with the possibility of remote work.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in all project phases for HVDC control & protection applications to ensure safe and reliable operations.
  • Conduct simulation studies and perform system testing.
  • Prepare documentation and deliver customer training sessions.
  • Engage in international travel for various assignments.

Qualifications / Background
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Experience in control & protection design, including control system testing.
  • Interest or skills in industrial application development and programming.
  • Proficiency in EMTDC/PSCAD is required.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Knowledge of digital technology, signal processing, and control system design is advantageous.
  • Experience in power system control, protection, automation, simulation, or modeling is beneficial.
