Job summary

This is an exciting new opportunity for 2 doctors to embark on a 6-month clinical fellow post in the Department of Trauma and Orthopaedics with potential extension to 12 months. This role can be split into 4 days ward work (80%) and 1 day for personal development (20%, negotiable working pattern). These posts would suit doctors who have recently completed Foundation Training and are considering careers in Acute or Geriatric Medicine, Perioperative Care (Anaesthetics/ICU) and Emergency Medicine or General Practice.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will provide ward-based care supporting the Silver Trauma Care service and the Ortho-Geriatric Liaison Service, particularly for fractured neck of femur and community trauma. They will also work closely alongside two Silver Trauma Physician Associates, who are supervised by the Orthogeriatric consultants. In addition to ward work, the post holder will be encouraged to develop their clinical and professional skills with at least one day a week dedicated to allow time to attend specialist clinics and MDTs for personal development. Involvement in clinical audit, quality improvement projects and teaching is also strongly encouraged.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

  • MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification
  • GMC Registration
  • Recent completion of recognised Foundation Programme or equivalent
  • ILS or equivalent
  • NHS Experience
  • MRCP or MRCS
  • Recent ALS or ATLS

Skills and Abilities

  • Good spoken and written English that is adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
  • The ability to practise independently under consultant supervision
  • Evidence of skills in the management of acute medical emergencies (e.g. ALERT IMPACT certification)

Qualifications and Training

  • MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification
  • Undertaken additional teaching courses or qualification

Additional and Aptitudes

  • Ability to maintain good relationships and communication with patients
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues
  • Demonstrates professional behaviour and probity
  • Contemporary evidence of involvement in quality improvement and clinical audit
