Job description

Job Title: Shovel Driver Plant Operative - Braintree Waste Transfer Station

Location: Braintree, United Kingdom

Salary: £25,081 to £28,033 per annum, plus a 6% flat rate allowance for weekend rota participation

Type: Permanent, Full Time

Job Overview

This role involves managing tipping hall operations, ensuring safe loading of articulated vehicles, overseeing site traffic management, and maintaining site safety standards within Essex County Council Waste service.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Operate mobile plant machinery such as front-loading shovels and 360-degree wheeled handlers safely and efficiently.
  2. Manage and control all tipping hall operations, including loading waste and managing site traffic.
  3. Ensure all site operations comply with health, safety, and environmental policies.
  4. Conduct pre-use inspections and routine maintenance of equipment.
  5. Assist with site inspections, paperwork, and site cleanliness.
  6. Report any environmental hazards, accidents, or incidents immediately.
  7. Enforce site rules and ensure compliance among all site users.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Valid full driving license; Material Handler and Loading Shovel qualifications are desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in operating plant machinery, preferably within waste management.
  • Knowledge of waste operations and mechanical systems is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to undertake further training.
