Job description

Our shops play a vital role in raising essential funds for our charity. We are currently looking for a Shop Manager to join our shop in Burleigh Street, Cambridge. This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week.

Each shop is a unique community hub, with our dedicated staff and volunteers managing donations, keeping the shop tidy, and ensuring items are available for sale.

In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the shop, managing turnover and profitability, and promoting the charity's image to all customers. The role also includes responsibility for the security of the shop premises, staff, volunteers, and stock, including opening and closing the shop.

We seek a shop manager with an interest in sustainable fashion, a strong sense of community, and a passion for supporting people through volunteering. You should bring innovation to help manage the shop effectively and be comfortable in a busy retail environment. Motivating the team and engaging with customers and staff regularly will be key to success.

Applicants should have a good general education, excellent verbal, numerical, and written skills, and previous experience in a retail environment with leadership or management responsibilities.

This role involves manual handling and physical activity. Lone working may occasionally be required. Candidates must be physically capable of meeting these requirements, with reasonable adjustments for disabled applicants.

The role operates on a rota basis over 7 days, including weekends.

Starting salary is £24,570, with opportunities to progress to £26,188.

Please note that the salary is based on full-time hours and will be pro-rated for part-time roles. As a charity with limited funds, new starters typically begin at the minimum of the salary band, though exceptional candidates may negotiate a higher starting salary.

We are a Disability Confident employer and welcome applications from candidates with disabilities. Support for applying is available via email at careers@arhc.org.uk.

We are committed to inclusivity, fairness, and diversity. Candidates with a disability meeting the minimum criteria will be guaranteed an interview. We especially encourage applications from underrepresented groups, including BAME communities.

We prioritize safeguarding and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
