Job description

Shipboard Corrosion Technician

Position Summary:

Life Cycle Engineering is seeking an experienced Shipboard Corrosion Technician to join the LCE team supporting structural and corrosion aspects of shipboard tanks, voids, spaces, compartments, and topside structures in Norfolk, VA. In this role, you will provide technical support, assessments, corrective actions, and training to ship's force.


Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be a US citizen with an active DoD Secret security clearance.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  1. Provide assessment status and operational checks of equipment and systems
  2. Identify and document system and/or equipment problems
  3. Correct and/or repair identified discrepancies and required corrective actions
  4. Identify and document design problems
  5. Identify and document logistic support deficiencies and recommend corrective actions
  6. Develop and provide on-the-job training (OJT) to Ships Force personnel
  7. Verify configuration data and existing 2 Kilos for accuracy
  8. Develop test specifications
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  1. Current NACE-certified Shipboard Corrosion Assessment Technician (S-CAT)
  2. High School Diploma
  3. At least eight (8) years' experience with installation, repair, testing, and maintenance of tanks, voids, spaces/compartments, and topside areas of naval vessels
  4. Experience in assessment, repair, and maintenance of tanks, voids, spaces/compartments, and topside areas on US Naval ships
  5. Minimum of four (4) years' hands-on experience working and inspecting ship structures, intakes, and exhaust, with knowledge of welding requirements as per NASEA Standard Items
  6. Experience with sheet metal, preservation, insulation, piping, and electrical systems on Navy ships
  7. Effective oral and written communication skills
Physical Demands & Expectations:
  • Regular physical activity including walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting up to 75 pounds, and standing; occasional prolonged sitting
  • Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, with or without assistance
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax, and other office equipment
