Job description
Astute's Power Team is partnering with a leading power Company to recruit Shift Team Leader for their Biomass Power Station in Chester.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage shift team operations, including staffing structure, daily task assignment, and performance oversight.
  • Train, coach, and develop shift personnel, ensuring continuous improvement and competency in operational roles.
  • Act as emergency controller during plant incidents, coordinating emergency response and safety procedures.
  • Issue and control permits to work, including High Voltage (HV), and ensure adherence to safe systems of work (SSOW).
  • Monitor plant processes and control room operations, responding to alarms and deviations to maintain operational stability.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, adjusting processes and analysing environmental parameters as per license requirements.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring adherence to site rules and effective incident reporting.
  • Use CMMS to manage maintenance activities, including raising and tracking work orders for fault resolution.
  • Produce and analyse shift reports, documenting operational activities and supporting continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate and communicate with internal departments and emergency services, ensuring smooth operations and safety readiness.
  • Manage human resource issues within the team, including shift cover, conflict resolution, and employee development.
  • Review, update, and develop operational and safety procedures, in collaboration with the line manager to ensure continuous compliance and improvement.
Professional qualifications
  • At least 5 years of experience working in an operations environment, working with DCS, ideally within the power sector.
  • HNC or ONC level qualification in an engineering discipline or other relevant subject.
  • Experience with the Safety Rules, ideally as an Authorised Person or Senior Authorised Person highly desirable.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualification highly desirable.

  • Proactive attitude towards health, safety & environmental.
