Overview

Shift Supervisor - Machine Shop (7 on / 7 off Days)

Package: £55,140 to £60,654 (base salary £50,000-£55,000 + 10.28% shift allowance)

Shift Pattern: 7 days on / 7 days off, 7am-5pm

Responsibilities
  • Lead and allocate work across machines and operators to meet production schedules and output targets.
  • Ensure parts are produced to drawing/specification and meet all quality inspection requirements, including first-off and in-process checks.
  • Oversee machine set-up, TPM routines, resource availability, and escalate downtime quickly.
  • Act as the first line of support for technical queries, problem-solving and decision-making during shift.
  • Manage performance, conduct appraisals, address absence, and carry out return-to-work and basic ER processes.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, skills development and succession planning.
  • Maintain clear communication across shifts and ensure adherence to H&S procedures and site standards.
  • Promote engagement, support continuous improvement activity and contribute to lean initiatives.
  • Use SAP/MRP to manage workflow, attendance, approvals and reporting.
Experience & Background
  • Essential:
    • Proven experience in a machine shop environment.
    • Previous responsibility for supervising or leading a team in production/manufacturing.
    • Ability to read engineering drawings and apply inspection processes.
    • Confident using ERP/MRP systems (SAP or similar).
    • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Desirable:
    • CNC machining or programming understanding.
    • Experience managing large teams across shift operations.
