A quick look at the role

At Biffa, we’re leading the way in sustainable waste management and renewable energy. Our Melton site houses a state-of-the-art SRF (Solid Recovered Fuel) pellet production facility — and we’re looking for a proactive Shift Supervisor to ensure safe, efficient, and high-performing site operations.

You’ll lead a skilled team, oversee day-to-day production, and ensure we meet output and quality targets — all while championing health, safety, and environmental best practices.

Your core responsibilities
  • Lead the on-shift operations team to maximise productivity and maintain safety standards
  • Monitor material inputs and ensure pellet quality meets specification
  • Accurately record plant data, settings, and downtime
  • Support preventative maintenance planning and continuous improvement
  • Uphold site housekeeping and enforce compliance with policies and licences
  • Stay informed on relevant legislation, policies, and operational best practices
Our essential requirements
  • NVQ Level 3 in Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience supervising in a process or manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with SCADA/PLC control systems
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Analytical mindset with good organisational skills
  • IT literate with experience using operational systems

And here’s why you’ll love it at Biffa.

  • Ongoing career development, training and coaching – Because if you don’t grow, we don’t grow.
  • We invest in you – senior engineers in Biffa have developed their careers and been promoted within the business. Many have completed degrees / MBAs / L5 or L7 Leadership & management programs whilst working with us.
  • We are corporate partner of the IET – we pay your membership fees and use them to support and accelerate your career development.
  • Generous pension scheme.
  • Retail and leisure discounts.
  • Holiday and travel discounts.
  • Life cover.
