Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in manufacturing management, preferably in timber frame or housebuilding.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with experience managing large teams.
  • Thorough understanding of Health and Safety standards.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Production Shift Manager to join our team within Vistry Works at our flagship factory in Coalville, Leicestershire.

Role Overview

As a Production Shift Manager, you will report directly to the Head of Manufacturing and the Head of I-Joist and Trusses. You will be responsible for managing the entire production team on your shift, which includes two shift supervisors, several working supervisors, and over 100 factory operatives within a timber engineering manufacturing facility. You will oversee all automated and manual production lines, ensuring the highest safety, environmental, and quality standards.

This is a new role at our current facility, establishing a new team for an afternoon shift, primarily from 2pm-10pm following onboarding and training with the morning shift.

What we expect from you

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in manufacturing management, preferably in timber frame or housebuilding
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing large teams in fast-paced environments
  • Thorough understanding of Health and Safety standards and procedures
  • Experience with employee management including inductions, training, holiday, absence, recruitment, incident management, and disciplinary procedures
  • Confidence in manufacturing processes, including woodworking machinery
  • Ability to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities
  • Good awareness of health & safety, manufacturing, and construction sectors
Additional Responsibilities
  • Manage all production aspects during your shift, ensuring quality and productivity
  • Collaborate with production planners and systems coordinators
  • Ensure safety and environmental policies are followed and documented
  • Promote a safe working environment and culture
  • Work with the opposite shift to ensure seamless operations
  • Develop and train team members, supporting their assessments
  • Maintain quality standards and address deviations
  • Coordinate with engineering to minimize downtime
  • Manage material requirements and resolve shortages
  • Contribute to production planning and scheduling
  • Assist during busy periods, taking a hands-on approach
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Perform any other tasks as directed by your line manager
