Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the Maintenance team at Lancashire Renewables Ltd. working at our Thornton facility.

What you’ll be doing

As a Shift Mechanical Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance of the waste facility processing assets, mechanical systems, and general site infrastructure. Supporting both planned and reactive maintenance work related activities to ensure the optimal performance and condition of the waste facility.

What you will bring

To be successful in this position, it is essential that you have completed a recognised apprenticeship or hold a qualification at ONC/HNC level in Mechanical Engineering.

While we offer and encourage training and development opportunities, the following skills and knowledge would be highly beneficial:

  • Experienced in delivering planned and reactive maintenance across mechanical systems, processing equipment, and infrastructure in waste treatment environments.
  • Skilled in using maintenance and business systems to plan, track, and report tasks, while responding promptly to faults to minimise downtime.
  • Proven ability to work to structured schedules and support project-related activities, including managing subcontractors.
  • Strong understanding of safe systems of work (PTW, LOTO) and SHEQ compliance within regulated settings.
  • Clear communicator with accurate record-keeping and effective handover practices.
  • Self-motivated and dependable, with a collaborative mindset and ability to work independently.
  • Technically knowledgeable, with sound procedural understanding, strong attention to detail, and a solid educational background.
  • Familiar with waste processing operations and associated systems.

Who are we?

Lancashire Renewables Ltd was established for the operation and management of the two waste treatment facilities built for the Lancashire Waste Contract.

Our two facilities in Thornton and Leyland are manned 365 days a year. Both sites can process over 5,000 tonnes of residual (black bin bag) waste per week and divert 95% of this material away from landfill.

Our aim is to achieve a sustainable future for Lancashire by providing services to process biodegradable and non-biodegradable community waste and our people are vital in helping us achieve this.

Our employees work in a variety of operations, maintenance, logistics and support roles across our two sites in Leyland and Thornton, actively encouraging internal growth through development and training programmes.
