Job description

We're looking for a mechanically skilled and hands-on engineer to join our high-performing team. You'll be responsible for ensuring plant equipment remains operational through proactive and reactive mechanical maintenance, fault diagnosis, and improvement work. This role is key to maximising equipment reliability and performance across the site.

Your core responsibilities include:

  • Carry out mechanical fault finding, repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy industrial equipment, including conveyors, pumps, valves, and gearboxes.
  • Ensure minimal downtime through effective reactive repairs and root cause analysis.
  • Support and deliver a robust PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) programme, updating and improving it where necessary.
  • Assist with mechanical installation and commissioning of new equipment or upgrades.
  • Work closely with contractors and suppliers for specialist repairs and component replacement.
  • Maintain all health, safety, environmental and engineering compliance standards on-site.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on mechanical reliability and efficiency.

Our essential requirements are:

  • Mechanical engineering qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent).
  • Proven experience maintaining heavy industrial/process machinery in a manufacturing, recycling or similar environment.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with pumps, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, gearboxes, and rotating equipment.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and controls is beneficial but not essential.
