Job summary

Ball Corporation in Milton Keynes is seeking a Shift Manager to run a 12-hour shift, driving safety, quality, production and spoilage targets across the line. You will lead a team, ensure safe working practices, coach staff, and collaborate with engineering to minimise downtime while maintaining product quality and lean improvements.

Experience in high-speed production and the food and drink sector is desirable; fluent English is required.

Responsibilities

  • Run a 12-hour shift and drive safety, quality, production and spoilage targets.
  • Enforce safe practices and housekeeping; improve safety awareness.
  • Meet production, quality, spoilage and environmental targets set by senior leaders and CI teams.
  • Investigate defects and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Drive continuous improvements to minimise costs and downtime; coordinate with engineering for maintenance.
  • Standardise equipment settings to achieve required specifications and product quality.
  • Identify training needs; provide training to ensure shift team competency.
  • Monitor team performance; take corrective action for equipment and operations issues.
  • Minimise waste and optimise material usage across the plant.
  • Lead and encourage shift team ideas; drive change through continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with other shifts to manage overall plant performance.
  • Lead on-site leadership and maintain industrial relations.
  • Lean six sigma, 5s and kaizen desirable.
  • Fluent in English language.

Job description

The Shift Manager will run a 12-hour shift and looking after safety, quality production and spoilage.,



  • Ensure safe working practices are adhered to at all times and good housekeeping and safety awareness is continuously improved in the work area and throughout the team.

  • Meet Production, Quality, Spoilage and environmental improvement targets as set by the Senior leadership team, the Continuous Improvement teams and the Plant budget.

  • Investigate and report equipment and process defects promptly and use the team and outside assistance to identify and undertake corrective action to prevent re-occurrence.

  • Drive continuous improvements in the team to minimise the costs in the plant and liase with the engineering department to ensure all maintenance work is completed to their satisfaction and continually look for methods to reduce breakdowns.

  • Ensure standardisation of equipment setting and operation to achieve the required specification and product quality.

  • Promote and maintain good industrial relations, identify training needs for the team. Provide and organise training to ensure the team is competent in all aspects of their jobs.

  • Monitor, control and communicate the performance of the team within and outside the team and ensure corrective action is taken, as required, for all equipment and operational problems/potential problems to continuously improve the operation.

  • Ensure effective use of materials, identify programmes to improve usage and minimise waste.

  • Ensure adequate training, Leadership motivation and corrective feedback to the Shift Team for who they are responsible.

  • Actively seek and follow up on Shift Team's ideas and suggestion and assist in driving change through continuous improvement in the plant.

  • Operate effectively with other Shift Manager to control the overall performance of the plant.
    Previous experience in high speed production and experience in food and drink industry is desirable

  • Leadership experience

  • Good leadership, delegation, communication, organisational and influencing skills

  • Competent computer skills

  • Lean six sigma, 5s and kaizen (desirable)

  • Fluent in both written and spoken English

  • Job Grade: Global Grade 11
