Job summary

DPD UK is recruiting an experienced Shift Manager to strengthen our Exeter Depot operations management team. You will work closely with Owner Drivers and Employed Drivers, building strong relationships and keeping the fleet engaged and motivated to deliver world class service.

You will lead a fast-paced operation, drive KPI targets, and ensure efficient routing, safety, and robust reporting. This role starts early with a 5am shift, Tue–Sat, at Exeter Depot.

Qualifications

• Experience in a fast-paced operation with people management responsibilities.
• Strong communication to inspire and manage a team.
• Decisive, with problem solving and time management skills.
• Resilient, self-motivated and flexible in a depot setting.
• Proficient in reporting and data analysis using standard tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead and motivate a team of drivers (ODs and employed) to deliver outstanding service.
• Achieve depot targets for Core Routes and SPR (Stops Per Route).
• Set efficient delivery and collection routes and schedules.
• Ensure drivers scan and load vans accurately and safely.
• Maintain open communication with drivers to resolve issues quickly.
• Coordinate ad-hoc collections using drivers or agencies as needed.
• Complete documentation and systems in line with requirements.
• Develop KPIs for service, cost, productivity, transport and safety.
• Drive depot performance to achieve 'Depot Clear' targets.

Job Description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Shift Manager, to help strengthen our depot operations management team.

In this role you will be working closely with our self employed Owner Drivers (OD’s) and Employed Drivers, building a strong relationship with them and keeping the drivers engaged, well managed and motivated to ensure outstanding service is delivered.

Other key accountabilities will be;

• Ensure depot target for Core Routes is achieved


• Ensure depot target Stops Per Route (SPR) is achieved


• Ensuring all other delivery & collection routes are properly set.


• Ensure all driver’s scan and load their vans for delivery in a safe, timely and efficient manner.


• Maintaining on-going communication with drivers to resolve any issues


• Ensuring adequate resources are available to guarantee any ad-hoc collections are picked up either via your pool of drivers or by using couriers/agencies.


• Ensuring that all relevant documentation and systems are completed accurately and in line with company and/or legislative requirements


• Working to set Key Performance Indicators including Service, Cost, Productivity, Transport and Health and Safety.


• Ensure "Depot Clear" is achieved in line with depot targets

Qualifications

What we’re looking for;

You will have experience in a fast paced operation with proven and demonstrable people management experience, involving direct accountability and responsibility for motivating and leading a high performing team, ideally within a Transport Setting. We would also expect:

• You will have strong communication skills with the ability to inspire, motivate and manage a team.


• Decisive and effective decision-making, problem resolution and time management skills.


• Demonstrate high levels of resilience, self-motivation and flexibility.


• Excellent computer skills with the ability to use Google chrome applications


• The ability to do comprehensive reporting, alongside analysis of data is a key requirement for this role.


• You will be highly vigilant to any unscrupulous activity taking swift and appropriate action.
